Description from the seller
In Dawn, Jakub Nowicki explores the emotional power of colour and texture through an abstract composition dominated by soft earthy tones interrupted by vivid passages of crimson red. Thick impasto areas emerge from a mist-like surface of greys, creams and muted blues, creating a sense of movement and quiet tension.
The title suggests the first light of day, a moment suspended between darkness and awakening. Rather than depicting a literal landscape, Nowicki evokes atmosphere and emotion, allowing the viewer to interpret the work through personal associations. The energetic red forms appear almost like veins of life breaking through a calm and contemplative surface.
Executed with expressive brushwork and richly layered oil paint, Dawn demonstrates the artist’s interest in materiality and the dialogue between abstraction and feeling. The textured surface captures light beautifully, revealing new nuances and details from different viewing angles.
Both intimate and powerful, the painting invites prolonged contemplation and offers a contemporary meditation on renewal, transition and inner transformation.
