Description from the seller
"Cowboy of Contemporary" – Limited Edition (100 copies) - New Collection 2026
Edition number: 05/100
Artist: SKE
Publisher: Atelier Montmartre Paris
Art paper 300 g – ISO A3 format – Signed, numbered – Certificate included
With Cowboy of Contemporary, SKE orchestrates a magistral collision between mythic the West and the history of modern art.
Lucky Luke, timeless figure of the Franco-Belgian comics, becomes here the tightrope walker of the art market, juggling with icons of street and contemporary pop art. Basquiat, KAWS, Haring, Warhol… as many symbols revisited in a moving composition, where the lone cowboy no longer draws his revolver, but manipulates cultural codes with ironic precision.
The work plays on the tension between popular culture and institutionalized art. The textured, almost urban background evokes both the wall of a contemporary gallery and a New York street. The splashes and circular strokes reinforce the idea of shifting trends, speculation, and the artistic cycle.
SKE here distorts the image of the hero as quick as lightning to make him the master of an artistic rodeo where icons become objects of circulation, desire, and power.
A strong piece, at once playful and critical, aimed at discerning collectors sensitive to the dialogue between comics, street art, and international contemporary art.
Characteristics:
• Limited edition of 100 copies
• Premium 300 g art paper print
• ISO A3 format, easy to frame
• Each copy signed and numbered by SKE
• Includes certificate of authenticity
• Protected shipping, reinforced packaging
A rare edition that will undoubtedly become a flagship element of your collection.
- ARTIST BIO:
SKE is a self-taught French artist and versatile creator who grew up immersed in the culture of the 80s/90s, inspiring much of his body of work.
He continually explores new techniques: acrylic painting, collage, stencil, graffiti, urban installations, and digital art. His dynamic, expressive compositions, often with a double reading, fuse the raw energy of street art with the visual impact of pop art.
After an exceptional 2025, SKE’s market value has risen notably. Winner of the first prize at Urban Master contest (2023), then named Revelation of the Year at the Color Jam Challenge (2025).
SKE was selected as "Artist of the Month" by the Opulence gallery in October, and has also gained a feature in an American art magazine, confirming his international recognition.
His works have already been exhibited in major venues in Europe, the United States, and Asia, consolidating his place on the contemporary art scene. In parallel, SKE has also established a presence in the digital art market, a major trend in the last two years, strengthening the appeal of his creations to collectors.
Icons of popular culture, bold graphics, and texture plays define a now indispensable style.
SKE is undoubtedly an artist to watch, to start or enrich a collection with rising value.
Artist Rated & Awarded – Pop Art & Contemporary Street Art
A UNIVERSE BETWEEN HERITAGE AND MODERNITY The work of SKE sits in a prestigious lineage. His line carries the visual efficiency of Keith Haring and Andy Warhol, while incorporating the subversion of Banksy or the pioneer Blek le Rat. His works create a bridge between eras: they revisit the classics, not hesitating to reinterpret Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, Hokusai’s The Great Wave, or Picasso’s deconstructed forms to confront them with a modern urban aesthetic akin to Mr Brainwash or Kaws.
POP CULTURE & NOSTALGIA Drawing from the collective imagination, SKE manipulates icons of our childhood. He stages the Disney universe with figures like Mickey or Pinocchio, and the symbolic greed of Scrooge McDuck. The influence of gaming, comics, and superheroes is omnipresent: from the Nintendo universe and the legendary Game Boy, to Pokémon creatures (Pikachu, Charizard, Ash), and the Marvel heroes. SKE crystallizes these memories in the manner of Daniel Arsham or Takashi Murakami.
LUXURY, HYPE & CONSUMER SOCIETY In a style sometimes reminiscent of Alec Monopoly, the artist toys with codes of success and materialism. The Dollar symbol sits alongside logos of luxury and fashion giants. His canvases capture the “Hype” aesthetic: you encounter the sneaker world (Nike Air Jordan, Adidas, Off-White) and haute couture (Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Louboutin). He also incorporates automotive adrenaline (Ferrari, Porsche, Bugatti, AMG) and precision watchmaking (Rolex, Tag Heuer), not to mention mass consumer icons like Coca-Cola. It is vibrant art, with textured finishes recalling the glazed surface of Jeff Koons or the facets of Richard Orlinski.
This work is ideal for enriching a collection or adding a dynamic touch to your interior.
