A rare and impressive edition of the Atlas Colonial Français, published by L’Illustration in 1929.
This substantial atlas was compiled by Commander P. Pollacchi and offers a detailed overview of the French colonial empire during the interwar period.
The work includes numerous fold-out maps, statistical data, geographical descriptions, historical maps, and photographic plates of the French colonies, protectorates, and mandate territories scattered across Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas. The atlas constitutes an important historical document from the heyday of the French colonial empire.
The original publishers' binding with decorative Art Deco elements has been preserved. Inside are several large, colorful maps, including maps of French Indochina, North Africa, Madagascar, French West Africa, French Equatorial Africa, and other colonial areas.
Number of pages: approximately 380+ pages including maps and plates
Format: large folio size (about 40 × 30 cm)
Condition
Reasonable to good condition given the age of nearly 100 years.
- Wear to the original binding and spine.
- Damages to the corners and ends of the spine.
- Some stains, foxing and signs of aging on endpapers and some pages.
- Interior predominantly clean.
- Maps present and in good condition.
- Binding still sturdy.
