Description from the seller
Pair of spice boxes or salt keepers.
The first measures 16 cm x 37 x 12.5 and weighs 1.080 kg. This is a French "Boite à sel" from the 19th century, or Provençal salt box, handmade in solid walnut with a carved decoration on the top. Slanted lid with hinge designed to preserve coarse salt (gros sel) and a small lower drawer, with the original white ceramic knob, traditionally used for table-fine salt (sel fin) or for pepper and spices of value. Waxed finish. Unusually tall dimensions. These functional pieces of folk art were hung on the kitchen wall. Circa 1880-1900. Excellent condition.
The second measures 21 cm x 37 (to the brim) x 16.5 and weighs 930 g. Made in France in the Île-de-France region at the beginning of the 20th century during the Deco period, whose style is unmistakable.
Both well preserved and in their original patina, they are a splendid testament to the past and at the same time valuable antique objects of great decorative value.
The photos should be considered an integral part of the description; shipping will be fast and insured for the full value. We do not ship outside Europe. At the end of the auction please check the message center where you will receive photos of the packing and instructions for receipt.
