Antique slingerglas from the Netherlands dating to 1700–1750, made of glass in transparent colour, with a height of 12.5 cm, width 5.5 cm and a diameter of 7 cm, in fair condition with heavy use and possible small parts missing.
Description from the seller
a beautiful handmade swirl glass from the 17th or 18th century, a splendid example of craftsmanship from a bygone era. This glass is not simply a drinking vessel, but a small work of art in which centuries-old artisanal techniques are visible.
There are currently several glasses available with combined shipping.
The decorative swirl motif is completely hand-applied: molten glass was spun in graceful strands over the main body glass, giving each piece a unique pattern. No two glasses are the same — the slight variations in thickness and twist make this glass an exclusive collector’s item.
In its time, a swirl glass was a status symbol, often used at special occasions in wealthier households. It combined functionality with refined aesthetics and still radiates that same elegance. Sometimes subtle colors were added or clear glass was used, allowing the light to play through the motif in a spellbinding way.
The technique of swirl glass is related to Venetian traditions such as chevron and filigrana, showing that knowledge and style of glassmakers were exchanged across Europe. Today, original 17th- and 18th-century swirl glasses are rare and highly sought after by collectors, not only for their beauty but also for their historical value and the exceptional craftsmanship.
A special opportunity to add a piece of history and refinement to your collection.
