AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

This still life of flowers by Gerrit Davis Labots, titled: "Kerstroos en hulst" (Christmas Rose and Holly), has a canvas size of 27 x 35 cm and is the pendant of the still life "Narcissen in een vaas" (Narcissi in a Vase) with virtually the same size and frame, also in this auction. The painting is, like the frame, in good condition.

Gerrit David Labots was born in Rotterdam-Kralingen, studied at the academy there, and lived and worked his entire life in the port city. He received, among others, lessons from J.H.F.C. Nachtweh and from G.H. Breitner. His oeuvre includes landscapes and portraits, but he most enjoyed painting still lifes and flowers in a clear and powerful coloristic palette. Labots regarded himself as a craftsman who did not engage in a lot of experiments, but adhered to the naturalistic-realistic style from his academy days.
