Lunar globe - Hellmuth Wolf, Hermann Haack - 1970-1980

This beautiful and rare moon globe was issued by Paul Räth in Leipzig in 1977. The globe features a stunningly aesthetic and extremely detailed map sheet designed by Hellmuth Wolf and offset printed by Hermann Haack in Gotha. The higher regions, such as mountains and crater rims, are shown in a yellow-beige color, while the deeper areas such as craters and 'lunar seas' are shown in a blue-gray color. The data used for the map in the former East Germany originates from the Russian space program of the 1960s. All known names of craters, mountains and seas are shown, and for the main ones, depth and elevation are also indicated. The landing sites of the Russian and American Luna, Orbiter and Apollo spacecraft are shown in red, as well as the places where spacecraft have crashed. The condition of the globe is truly fantastic. It is completely original and there is only a small spot where the map sheet was a little worn. This has been expertly restored. These moon globes were sold in two different editions: one on a simple black bakelite stand and the other like this, on a luxurious wood veneer stand. These moon globes are extremely rare and valuable, especially in such good condition. A unique opportunity to own an important spaceflight-era document.
