Richard Moritz Meyer (1860–1914) – eminent German philologist and literary historian, professor at the University of Berlin – 'Goethe'.
A classic, highly regarded biography and a deep analysis of the works of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
The third, expanded edition (Dritte vermehrte Auflage) from 1905, published by Ernst Hofmann & Co., Berlin.
Complete: Volume 1 (Erster Band) + Volume 2 (Zweiter Band) – a full two-volume edition.
Binding: Beautiful, original burgundy-brown binding from the period (half-leather/canvas) with rich gilded embossing on the spine and covers. Very decorative and impressive.
Extras: Numerous portraits (Bildnisse) and facsimile of Goethe's manuscript.
Condition: Very good for a 120-year-old copy. Bindings solid, spines sturdy, gilding clear, pages clean. Elegant ex-libris/heraldry on the endpapers.
