Campesina vendimia, oil on canvas signed by J. Alexander (XIX), dated 1885, Spain, folk art, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Oil on original canvas (1885) - "Young Woman with Flowers" - Catalan School / J. Alexander
Exquisite oil painting on full-length canvas that depicts a young peasant woman or allegory of the harvest, dated exactly 1885. A cabinet-piece with a marked genre-painting and luminous character, very representative of the last third of the 19th century.
Author: J. Alexander (Signed and dated "85" in the lower right corner).
Period: Year 1885.
Provenance: Original stretcher with the historic seal of the mythical fine arts house "José Texidor" (Calle Regomir 3, Barcelona), a key supplier of the Catalan mid-turn painting school.
Measurements: With frame: 80x 52x 9 cm
Only the canvas (inner light): 58x31 cm (Elongated format, ideal for decorative panels or overdoors).
Frame: Spectacular frame in wood and gold leaf, ornamented with reliefs of palmettes, acanthus leaves in a neorenaissance style and pearl beading.
Condition: Very good state of conservation for its age (more than 140 years). It shows a natural and subtle craquelure in the painted layer that guarantees its authenticity with small imperfections or wear that are identified in the latest photographs that form part of the description.
The frame shows the original patina of time with minimal logical misalignments at the miters.
From a private collection
A magnificent piece for collectors of 19th-century Spanish painting or for projects of classical high decoration
Due to international conflicts this object is not shipped outside the European Union nor to islands because the customs procedures are endless
