Description from the seller

Ancient Javanese Kris (Keris) with a pronounced pamor blade – Indonesia – circa 19th century

Very beautiful antique Javanese Kris (keris) originating from Indonesia, crafted with a traditional hand-forged pamor blade. The blade displays a pronounced and decorative layered pattern that arose from folding and forging different steel types according to centuries-old Javanese smithing techniques.

The kris features an elegant carved wooden grip with decorative metal selut and a richly shaped wooden warangka (sheath). The engraved metal pendok forms a beautiful contrast with the warm wood texture of the sheath.

Krisen belong to the most important cultural-historical objects of Indonesia and were worn as a status symbol, spiritual object and ceremonial dagger. The combination of the characterful pamor, the traditional design and the fine finish makes this specimen particularly attractive for collectors of ethnography, Asian art and antique weapons.

Dating: late 19th century / early 20th century, circa 1900.
Total length: 50 cm
