Description from the seller

French lithograph titled "Le Chemin de Fer" (The Railway). It is a reproduced image from the famous Imagerie d'Épinal, originally issued around 1840 by the Pellerin printing works. The image is on handmade paper and hand-colored. The paper has a watermark. The dimensions are 50 by 65 cm. It has always been framed, so no discoloration and in very good condition.

In the photos you can see that it is framed, but due to shipping costs only the print will be sent, so you can also choose the frame to your taste.

Subject: The print celebrates the opening of the very first real passenger railway in France. It ran between Paris and Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Visual style: Characteristic of Épinal prints are the bright, hand-colored fields and the lively, popular scenes. It shows spectators in 19th-century clothing gazing in awe at the early steam train.
