Rare Russian Émigré Literature First Edition – Pristine UNCUT / UNOPENED Copy
An exceptionally rare, completely uncut and unopened copy of Souchastie Dush: Ocherki (Complicity of Souls: Essays) by the celebrated Russian Symbolist poet Konstantin Balmont (1867–1942), published during his post-revolutionary exile.
Written between 1928 and 1930 in Capbreton, France, this book was published in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1930 by the State Printing House. It is printed in the elegant pre-reform Russian orthography, traditionally preferred by the Russian émigré intelligentsia who rejected the Soviet linguistic reforms.
Collector's Condition & Highlight:
This copy is a true time capsule. The interior text block is in Near Mint, unread condition, as the top margins of the pages remain entirely uncut/unopened from the printing press. It has remained untouched for nearly a century. The original paperback cover and spine show only light, natural shelf wear and minor age-toning appropriate for its 1930 publication. The original price of "25 leva" is intact on the back cover.
Content Significance:
The volume contains a rich collection of 18 essays and literary studies reflecting Balmont's deep spiritual connection to the Slavic world. It features detailed analytical chapters on Bulgarian folklore, primitive myths, and traditional folk songs. Notably, the book includes dedicated critical essays on prominent Bulgarian literary figures, such as the "Patriarch of Bulgarian Literature" Ivan Vazov, Nikolay Rakitin, Emanuil Popdimitrov, and Nikolay Liliev.
A superb, investment-grade addition for serious collectors of Russian Silver Age poetry, Émigré history, and Slavic folklore.
