About the Artist
Hodaka Yoshida (吉田穂高) was a prominent Japanese modernist artist and member of the distinguished Yoshida artistic family. Beginning his career as an oil painter, he turned to woodblock printmaking in 1950, developing a highly original visual language that combined abstraction, symbolism, and architectural motifs. His innovative approach played an important role in the evolution of modern Japanese printmaking during the second half of the twentieth century.
