Description from the seller
Rare and Early Carbide Headlamp in Brass - Magnin Lantern Manufacturing (Lyon-Paris) - Caliber 10 - Early 1900s for Motorbikes/Bicycles
Splendid and rare example of an acetylene (carbide) front headlamp for vintage motorcycles (under-the-pantry models), sidecars or travel bicycles, dating to the very early years of the twentieth century (circa 1900-1915).
An authentic piece of industrial antiquarian and history of motorism, produced by the famous French company Magnin.
Manufacturer: Manufacture de Lanternes J. Magnin (Lyon & Paris)
Authenticity Marks: Features the original raised oval plaque on the top with the inscription "Manufacture LYON PARIS LANTERNES" and the official logo with the letter "M" crossed by a laurel branch.
Punching: Original punch with the number 10 impressed on the front metal, identifying the large caliber of the parabolic reflector (top-of-the-line model intended for motorcycles or important velocipedes).
Material: Robust metal frame with the original convex front glass lens.
Details: Complete with the original rear spring-mounted attachment for fastening to the vehicle.
The item presents in splendid overall conservation conditions, with a beautiful patina of time that enhances its authenticity and historical value. The metal is solid, the glass lens is perfectly intact, and the structure shows no cracks or invasive repairs.
A notable mechanical detail: The upper screw for regulating the water flow is unlocked, turns, and works perfectly. This is a rare detail for an object of this era, which greatly increases its commercial value.
Excellent for pure collecting, or to be put back into operation on vintage vehicles for historic events (e.g., Vintage Motorcycle or historic cycling events like L’Eroica), or as an exclusive vintage industrial design furniture piece.
The item is sold in the condition visible in the photos, with the "as seen, and seller accepts" policy.
