A Little Piece of History
José Luis Campos, Spanish Visual Artist. Born in 1948 in Galicia. Graduate of the Panamerican Institute of Art in 1974 (Buenos Aires-Argentina). Dedicated to painting from a very young age. However, only in 2020 did he venture into sculpture under the guidance of the renowned Málaga-born sculptor Virgilio Rodríguez. He has been developing techniques and concepts with recyclable materials in most of his works, creating an atmosphere that captivates through the concept developed, in a constant search to find balance between what is real and what is imaginable. He often captures in his works a peaceful line with certain details.
In his paintings he pays close attention to a reduced palette to render a uniform work with few details. A lover of South American pre-Columbian cultures, particularly Peru, he has developed there, some years ago, a mixed Indigenist/Abstract technique which today enjoys wide acceptance among collectors. His works have generally been acquired by collectors in several countries such as: USA, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Portugal, Italy, Slovakia, Finland, Switzerland, Japan, Greece, Ireland, Austria, France, Canada, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, England, China. He also has more than 25 international solo and group exhibitions, in addition to diplomas of honor, nominations, prizes and recognitions, art books, press and television coverage. e.g. the book “Histories of Painters” by the distinguished Málaga-born writer Joaquín Palmerola, the Itaca art book published in Soria, Spain, contemporary art 2003 Sevilla Art Fair, among others. José Luis Campos signs his paintings by hand on the front and back of the work and also provides a certificate of authenticity to the buyer. Describing this multifaceted artist is almost a challenge, as he prefers spectators to form their own conclusions about his work. For Campos, a work is a struggle between the artist and the canvas; you know where you begin, but never where you end.
