Description from the seller
LAURENCE JENKELL, A FRENCH ARTIST RECOGNIZED ON THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE
Better known as Laurence JENKELL, in 2020 the artist changes her signature to a shorter name with modern-sounding letters: JENK.
The goal?
To evolve her identity to better protect her creations.
FRENCH CONTEMPORARY SELF-TAUGHT ARTIST KNIGHT OF THE ORDER OF ARTS AND LETTERS
EXHIBITED ALL AROUND THE WORLD
In a few words:
Laurence JENKELL was born on December 31, 1965. She lives and works in Valbonne, in the Alpes-Maritimes. Known and recognized for her sculptures in vibrant colors, she creates candies bigger than life, in bright colors and varying sizes, made from materials such as bronze, plexiglass, aluminum and marble.
More than a medium, the candy interpreted by Laurence JENKELL has become a language. Her works are part of a reflection and a cultural process: the subject of the Candy combining simplicity and universality.
The great freedom and no less great determination with which Laurence JENKELL conducts her research, develops her themes and enriches her repertoire of forms, commands admiration and reveals a genuine artist’s temperament. The Candy remains the hard core of her creative identity, but she skillfully explores all its possibilities.
In just about ten years, her Candies, as well as their more or less direct ramifications, the iconic Wrappings, the ADNs, the Robots, the Butterflies… Have conquered the planet. Recently she extrapolates her “wrapping” and the twist gesture with other materials and other forms.
Although the Candy remains her favorite subject, her latest packaging creations reflect environmental issues such as the depletion of coffee-producing lands, the proliferation of non-biodegradable disposable products, and the poaching of endangered animals.
Laurence JENKELL’s work is present in more than 25 countries. She is represented by numerous galleries and is part of major private, public and institutional collections."
