For sale is an illustrated edition of the works of the Italian poet Francesco Petrarca (1304–1374), printed in Venice by Bernardino Stagnino.
Included are his famous love poems to Laura (Sonnets and Canzone) as well as the allegorical poem Triumphi, in which the themes of love, chastity, death, fame, time, and eternity are presented in poetic form. A notable feature of this edition is that the entire work is printed completely in italics.
The book contains two parts in one volume. There are also seven full-page woodcuts as well as some woodcut initials.
The pages are in used condition for their age. They show a light browning as well as some stains. Occasional small holes, some cracks and a few water stains. Pages 1–30 have purple speckles at the lower corners; the same applies to pages 154–184 in the second part.
In a later half-leather binding with signs of wear.
Collation: 158 numbered leaves, 6 unnumbered leaves, 184 numbered leaves
Dimensions: 21 x 15.5 cm
