Pair of porcelain toiletry flasks from France, dating to circa 1850–1900, in good used condition with minor signs of age, each with its original mushroom cap and the two bottles measuring up to 22 cm tall.
Description from the seller
Pair of toilet flacons with coeval caps
Era: Napoleon III (circa 1850–1870)
Glazed white porcelain painted with polychrome enamels and highlighted in 24-carat gold.
Measurements: large bottle height 22 cm; small bottle height 14 cm
Under the base: import mark or inventory number impressed as “5”.
Description of the item
The lot consists of two bottles of different sizes, originally part of a larger ladies’ vanity service or a salon liqueur set. The pieces feature a globular body ribbed in wedge-shaped segments at the lower part, which tapers elegantly into a slender cylindrical neck, marked by a torchon/bead-like molding in relief. The terminal part of the neck is finished with a fully gilded multi-lobed collar, surmounted by their respective original mushroom caps, also beaded and decorated in gold.
The painted decoration, of excellent execution, develops on a white ground and is characterized by a central band with phytomorphic motifs featuring small red five-petaled flowers and sinuous bright green foliage. The rest of the surface is enriched by a dense, minute decoration of racemes, tendrils, and stylized inflorescences in gilt gold, brushed on. The ribs of the base are edged with gold fillets that frame alternating floral ramages.
