Description from the seller

PORCELAIN TABLE GARDEN VASE CENTERPIECE
Paris, Bourdois & Bloch manufactory, late 19th century

Description:
Large porcelain table centerpiece jardinière molded in hard white porcelain, ovoid irregular with ribbed, bowed body, entirely hand-painted in polychrome and gilt with fine gold. The upper edge, with a richly undulating and sinuous profile, is embellished with elaborate pierced rocaille reserves featuring shell motifs, foliate scrolls, and dotted gold details of exquisite Neoclassical late 18th/early 19th-century taste. The ends of the body are finished with molded handles in the shape of botanical and architectural decorative elements perfectly integrated into the ornament.

The sides and interior of the basin are adorned with very fine sprays of flowers scattered about (including roses, irises, tulips, campanulas, and pansies) rendered with extraordinary color freshness and miniature virtuosity, alternating with delicate isolated flowering branches. The elliptical base bears a raised gold-leaf band illuminated by flowing gold volutes.

Under the base is the blue-on-glass mark of the inverted double “B” intertwined and topped by a coronet, the distinctive insignia of the famous Parisian manufacture Bourdois & Bloch.

Note on the Mark:
The blue-on-glass mark with the mirrored letters “B” and crowned coronet identifies the high-era production of Bourdois & Bloch (active in Paris since 1887), renowned for the exceptional execution quality of its pieces in the Sevres/Saxon style, intended for the upper aristocracy of the period and often presented at the Great International Expositions at the turn of the century.

Technical Details:

Provenance: Paris, France.

Era: Late 19th century (circa 1890).

Dimensions: Height 12 cm; width 31 cm; depth 18 cm.
