Description from the seller

A rare original Tudric pewter tray by Liberty & Co., London, designed by the renowned Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau designer Archibald Knox (c. 1902–1905). This model is documented in the specialist literature and is considered one of the classic designs of the English Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau period.

Approximate dimensions: Length 46 cm / Width 35 cm / Height 2 cm

The four sculptural corner appliqués, featuring stylised interlace and plant motifs, clearly reflect the influence of the Celtic Revival and the English Arts & Crafts movement. The simple, functional base form creates an appealing contrast to the decorative ornamentation — a hallmark of Knox’s work for Liberty.

Condition Beautiful, authentic condition with age appropriate patina. The hammered surface and the decorative corner elements are well preserved.

Historical Significance Model 0309 belongs to the early Tudric designs and already demonstrates the characteristic fusion of Celtic ornamentation and modern form language for which Knox is internationally admired.
