Description from the seller
THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan signs a striking diptych that brings portrait and landscape into dialogue. The face of a shinobi — a shadow warrior from the Edo era — becomes a true dreamlike window: beneath his hood and mask opens a bamboo forest bathed in moonlight, pierced by a torii at the end of a misty trail. This one-off splash draws on the great tradition of Japanese watercolor and ink painting (sumi-e), heir to the ukiyo-e aesthetic, the “floating world.”
The power of the composition lies in its wash and transparency treatment, typical of genuine watercolor. The pigments diffuse and blend freely on a grainy, patinated paper, creating the granulation and halos so characteristic of the watercolor medium. The palette, dominated by a deep Prussian blue highlighted with ochres and sepias, echoes the legendary indigos of great masters of printmaking such as Hokusai and Hiroshige. The lower part of the mask dissolves into splashes and runs, anchoring the subject in a vaporous atmosphere.
The impact of the work rests on the tension between reality and dream: the single visible eye of the warrior, painted with incisive precision, fixes the viewer, while the rest of the face fades in favor of the inner landscape. This overprinting play — where the moon becomes a cheekbone, where the bamboo stalks trace the folds of the fabric — blurs the boundaries between man and the nature he protects. A true visual meditation on memory and hidden identity.
A poetic, graphic, contemplative piece, at once rooted in Japanese imagination and resolutely contemporary. Ideal to bring a zen, mysterious, refined touch to an interior that is design-oriented and collectible.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a studio of artists united around a living, plural contemporary creation. Set up as a genuine hub of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and the visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive approach, mixing abstract art, brut art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
