Description from the seller
THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan signs a pop and hilarious mashup, pitting the power of a Japanese warrior against the most tricky enemy there is: a stubborn jar of pickles. The colossus, traditional chignon (chonmage) on the head and a body entirely covered in tattoos, sits cross-legged on the tatami, delivering a fierce battle against a lid that refuses to give way. Teeth clenched, brows furrowed, and beads of sweat convey the intensity of the confrontation, under the neon sign “メドサン” (Medsan). This unique splash extends the artist’s beloved series of playful anachronisms.
The visual impact of the composition lies in its striking graphic language: blocks of bold colors, strong black outlines, pale green background, and stylized clouds borrowed from the printmaking tradition. The tattoos (irezumi) — blue and pink dragons (ryū), koi carp and peonies — directly reference the world of Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s warrior prints, the master who popularized tattoo imagery in Edo-era 19th-century Japan. All of it throbs with a Pop Art energy, inherited from comic books.
The work’s impact rests on its situational humor: the invincible giant thwarted by the most mundane everyday object. Medsan fully exploits the incongruity between epic strength and domestic absurdity, delivering a universal, self-mocking gag. The ordinary is thus elevated to epic status, in the purest pop spirit that celebrates the trivial.
A fun, dynamic, and wildly decorative piece, ideal for adding a colorful, funny, and quirky touch to a contemporary interior — a perfect wink for lovers of Japanese culture as well as humor.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a studio of artists gathered around a living and plural contemporary creation. Installed like a true site of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family adventure. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive pursuit, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is designed, created, and supervised within the studio, with a common artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
