Description from the seller
THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan orchestrates a striking cinematic mash-up, blending the Star Wars mythology — the legendary Death Star imagined by George Lucas — with the grand tradition of Romantic landscape painting. A solitary traveler, cloaked in a cape and wearing a helmet, pushing his modest cart through a vast desert expanse that evokes the dunes of Tatooine, stops, seized, facing the colossal sphere rising on the horizon. This unique print turns a science-fiction icon into a true pictorial apparition.
The visual impact of the composition lies in its generous painterly treatment, with impasto and broad brushstrokes characteristic of oil painting. The warm ochres of the sand, whipped by gusts of wind, contrast with a stormy blue-gray sky. Above all, the figure seen from behind contemplating the void — the famous Rückenfigur — directly cites Caspar David Friedrich's The Traveller above the Sea of Fog, an iconic image of German Romanticism and man facing the sublime. The metal star, rendered with dense, textured material, oscillates between menace and wonder.
The artwork’s impact arises from this dialogue between popular culture and Romantic painting: the tiny being confronted with immensity, the monolithic technological pillar substituting for nature’s grand forces cherished by Friedrich. It is a meditation on discovery, on the vertigo of the unknown — perhaps the dawn of a future epic.
A cinematic, atmospheric, and narrative piece, ideal for adding an epic, mysterious, and pictorial touch to a collector’s interior — a masterful bridge between cinema and science-fiction enthusiasts and admirers of classical painting.

About the Workshop:
Atelier Joconde is a workshop of artists gathered around a living and plural contemporary creation. Established as a true center of artistic production, the workshop operates both as collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realist influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive pursuit, blending abstract art, art brut, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, with a common artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
