Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD EXISTS - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format artwork, Medsan signs a pop mashup that is decidedly off-kilter, transforming a proud Japanese warrior into a true icon of old-school hip-hop. Strapped into his sumptuous purple-and-gold combat suit, with a traditional bun and neatly trimmed goatee, the hero exudes the nonchalance of an '80s B-boy: black sunglasses, an orange headset perched on the ears, and a boombox slung over the shoulder. Under the Leuje sign « メドサン » (Medsan), this unique splatter extends the artist’s playful series of anachronisms.
The visual impact of the composition lies in its confident graphic language: areas of bold flat color, pronounced black outlines, and a plain green background that makes the costume’s richness jump, entirely covered with swirling cloud motifs. The noble bearing of the character and the delicacy of his ornaments directly cite the Edo-period warrior prints (musha-e), in the tradition of Utagawa Kuniyoshi, here electrified by a pop palette and a streetwear attitude.
The work’s impact comes from its jubilant insolence: the timeless nobility of the samurai collides head-on with the swag of early rap. Medsan plays with the encounter between two cultures of honor and posture — bushidō and the street — to celebrate, with mischief, a certain idea of swagger that transcends eras.
A fun, graphic piece full of attitude, ideal for adding a colorful, pop, and musical touch to a contemporary interior — a perfect wink for lovers of Japanese culture, music, and urban culture.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a studio of artists brought together around a living and plural contemporary creation. Set up like a genuine artistic production space, the studio operates both as collective creation and as individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family adventure. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive inquiry, blending abstract art, brut art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
