With this square-format artwork, Medsan fully unleashes his anatomical signature in a graphical and visceral mashup. A ninja (shinobi), captured in full motion, sees his body “fragment”: fabric and flesh tear and shatter to reveal a striking ribcage. The whole piece stands out on a vivid red background animated by black and cream smoke swirls, in a vintage poster aesthetic. This unique print is a deliberate nod to the artist Gontek, known for his “fragmented” works. It bears the signature “メドサン” (Medsan) in a cartouche.

The visual force of the composition lies in its sharp graphic language: flat muted colors, nerve-wracking black outlines, and swirling clouds borrowed from the vocabulary of Japanese printmaking, punctuated by suspended particles of matter. The exposure of the thorax draws on the great tradition of the anatomical skewer — these anatomical figures inherited from Renaissance plates, from Vesalius to Leonardo da Vinci — here fused with Japanese imagery and the texture of patinated paper.

The impact of the work rests on the tension between momentum and dislocation: the warrior in full action literally disintegrates, and the skeleton revealed acts as a powerful memento mori.
