Publisher: Appresso Pietro Auberto, in Geneva
Measurements: (14.5 x 8.5 x 5 cm). P.p. N (10), 1175, (14).
Grande Opera omnia. Rare First Edition in contemporaneous binding, rebound in leather with the title and the gilt inlays impressed with the beautiful decorative logo and central on the plates. Printer’s mark at the title page with the "Griffon resting on a book, placed on the winged sphere", clasps and initials in woodcut. A bookplate label at the front with some handwritten notes.
Main description: evident wear to the boards and back due to use and the passage of time, binding loosening, plus scattered mottleing inside, some signs of damp and foxing across the plates. Ancient and rare text presented in good reading condition due to the narrative’s significant importance and the Author, as explained by the history written and illustrated, and by the aesthetic of the typeface.
With the writing of so important a historian and Author, recognized worldwide as among the most valid for his writings, culturally sought after for his works of undeniable note and precision. As a Marquis he presents himself thus very precise in historical narratives, with illustrated documents he himself helped to create, in the Monarchies as his personal and direct historical experience, storyteller and learned writer.
A collection of the Five works entitled by the Italian historical author, considered the "first and greatest among our seneschal writers" (Sapegno). Malvezzi (1599-1654) was Spanish ambassador in England and some of his works, such as Privato politico and Davide, are direct consequences of that important political and diplomatic experience. The volume is not common and rare in its workmanship as inlaying for the exterior.
Numerically complete and intact pages, except for some small omissions, no invasive signs, white sheets present between titles in the content.
Contemporary work in a special edition, maintaining solid consistency as an antique edition, with titles and all preliminaries inserted in a single large volume bound in leather, with decorative inlays on the back, five raised ribs. Two decorative emblems gold-stamped on the boards, symbolically represented by a tower, a lion and a crown. Boards further decorated by double bordering that frames the aesthetics in the measurements, in a rectangular shape, as for the back, on which linear interlaced decorations appear, with a flower inside the tesserae and the Title printed "Il Romulo". Note the absence of decoration for the lower tessera. Stains on the edges. All plates present and intact. The white leaves.
