Description from the seller
Work from 1954, the year when Corneille was given prominence at the Colette Allendy Gallery, a gallery of Yves Klein, Picabia, and Hartung, in Paris.
This work recalls a drawing by Tinguely and one of his machines. Guillaume Corneille was closely associated with the Nouveau Réalisme group around Pierre Restany.
Astres, planètes ou fleurs: the painter here represents a set of calligraphic or atmospheric swirls in an ink technique that recalls the Japanese Masters of Calligraphy: it should be noted that in this same year 1954, Corneille invited to the Colette Allendy Gallery Shiryu MORITA, and the Bokujin group (the same group that hosted Pierre Soulages in Japan in 1959).
Dimensions: 18 x 21.5 cm
Dimensions with frame: 37 x 40 cm
Delivered with a certificate of authenticity from the Guillaume Corneille Foundation.
Original work by the painter Guillaume Corneille (1922-2010), a painter born to Dutch parents, founding member of the Cobra group with Asger Jorn, Karel Appel, Constant, Dotremont, Alechinsky and Jacques Doucet, among others.
