Work from 1954, the year Corneille was showcased at the Colette Allendy Gallery, a Paris gallery associated with Yves Klein, Picabia, and Hartung.
At Cobra painter Guillaume Corneille, abstraction is never quite an abstraction.
Guillaume Corneille here depicts a mineral desert landscape in an ink technique that recalls the Japanese master calligraphers: it should be noted that in the same year 1954, he invited Shiryu MORITA to the Colette Allendy Gallery, and the Bokujin group (the one that welcomed Pierre Soulages to Japan in 1959).
