Double-sided carved speculaas board with a peddler and a lady, circa 1925

Double-sided carved speculaas board, presumably from the 1920s.
On one side two figures in strikingly deep and detailed carving: at the top a peddler with hat, walking stick and shoulder basket with a floral motif on the back, at the bottom a lady in traditional dress. The other side is also adorned with carving.
Double-sided boards are rarer than single-sided: they were made for intensive use in the bakery and offer two decorative faces in one object. Warm patina, sturdy wood, craftsmanship of an experienced woodcarver.

Dubbelzijdige speculaasplank met marskramer en dame, circa 1925

Dubbelzijdig gesneden speculaasplank, vermoedelijk uit de jaren 1920.
Aan de ene zijde twee figuren in opvallend diep en gedetailleerd snijwerk: bovenaan een marskramer met hoed, wandelstok en draagmand met bloemmotief op de rug, onderaan een dame in klederdracht. De andere zijde is eveneens voorzien van snijwerk.
Dubbelzijdige planken zijn schaarser dan enkelzijdige: ze werden gemaakt voor intensief gebruik in de bakkerij en bieden twee decoratieve zijden in één object. Warme patine, stevig hout, vakmanschap van een ervaren vormsnijder.
