Description from the seller
A fascinating edition of this illustrated album by Benjamin Rabier, depicting the adventures of Marius, a courageous, quick-witted rooster deeply committed to protecting the farm animals of which he is the natural leader and vigilant guardian.
Settled at the top of the steeple that overlooks the countryside, Marius observes his surroundings with care and watches over his feathered and furry companions, embodying authority, bravery and generosity alike.
The plot centers on a twist of fate in which a hen is endangered after being captured or threatened by a badger, a sly predator seeking to take advantage of her vulnerability. Refusing to abandon one of the farmyard’s inhabitants, Marius undertakes a rescue operation that mobilizes his intelligence, his calmness under pressure, and his ability to outwit the adversary’s traps.
Throughout this adventure, the rooster must show ingenuity to deceive the predator, organize resistance, and restore confidence to the animals frightened by the looming threat.
As in many Rabier stories, the animals possess human feelings, reasoning, and behaviors, allowing the author to build a vivid narrative where courage, solidarity and loyalty triumph over brute force.
