Description from the seller
Beautiful illustrated edition of 6 etchings hors-texte (out of 6) from this collection of moral and literary fables that sits within the great French tradition inherited from Jean de La Fontaine while developing a softer, more sentimental and often more optimistic tone -
Through a wide variety of stories featuring animals, human beings, allegorical characters and sometimes figures borrowed from the pastoral world, Florian seeks to educate the reader while entertaining them -
Each fable rests on a simple situation that leads to a moral reflection on human virtues and faults. The author tackles themes such as friendship, kindness, generosity, fidelity, prudence, modesty, justice, recognition and respect for others -
He also denounces pride, excessive ambition, ingratitude, vanity, selfishness, greed and abuses of power. The animals speak and act like humans, allowing Florian to observe human behaviors in a light and accessible form -
Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian - Fables of Florian - 1825 - Ledentu -
