These memoirs constitute both a historical testimony and a retrospective construction aimed at highlighting the policy of the reign of Henri IV, with which Sully was closely associated. The text mainly recounts the events of the end of the Wars of Religion, the consolidation of royal power, and the administrative and economic reforms undertaken under the king’s reign -
Sully describes his role as principal minister and advisor, notably in managing the kingdom’s finances, stabilizing the economy, and rebuilding a State weakened by decades of internal conflicts -
The edition emphasizes the efforts deployed to restore monarchical authority, reestablish civil peace, and encourage agriculture, trade, and public works -
