With Hors du cadre Collection, JM Robert continues his exploration of contemporary portraiture by merging painting and object. The female face emerges from an explosion of luminous colors where yellows, pinks, violets, blues and oranges predominate, in a vibrant and instinctive composition.
The artist here plays with the very idea of the frame. The antique mouldings no longer merely surround the work: they are overwhelmed by the paint, integrated into the gesture and fully participate in the composition. Projections, drips and impasto deliberately overflow the traditional limits of the painting, giving full meaning to the work’s title.
The frontal gaze of the model contrasts with the almost wild energy of the painting matter. This encounter between classical elegance and contemporary spontaneity constitutes one of the most alluring signatures of JM Robert’s work.
