Description from the seller

A very exceptional early work by Lucebert (Lubertus Swaanswijk) from 1961.

Lucebert, as a painter, was closely involved, but only briefly, with the Amsterdam branch of the experimental CoBrA group. As a multi-talented figure, he was known as the group’s poet. Although Lucebert was briefly part of the CoBrA movement, this was a very significant period for him, because here he found his visual language and expression.

In this work, this visual language is already slowly visible, yet there are many echoes of Abstract Expressionism to be seen. A very unique and remarkable work, which, although it deviates from Lucebert’s recognizable figuration, speaks incredibly to the imagination.

The work was purchased in January 2002 from Fine Art Dealers E.J. van Wisselingh & Co in Haarlem / Mr. Willem de Winter and subsequently provided with a beautiful matching frame.
Mr. de Winter is known as an expert in modern art on the TV program "Tussen Kunst en Kitch".
The authenticity of the work has been confirmed in writing by Mr. de Winter.

At the same time as the purchase, Mr. de Winter prepared an official appraisal report (Value January 2002 without frame: €8,000).
Copies of all official documents are included.

Mr. de Winter describes the work as follows:
"It is a rare early and abstract painting by Lucebert, something that very few people have ever seen before and perhaps not even thought possible. That is exactly what makes art so fascinating."
