Antique ceiling lamp in glass (vaseline/uranglas) with Hobnail pattern, in Art Nouveau style, dating to circa 1900–1910, with original brass mount.
Description from the seller
Antique ceiling lamp / pendant light (complete with original mounting)
Style & period: Art Nouveau, late 19th century to very early 20th century (ca. 1890–1910).
Material (glass): Uranium glass / Vaseline glass with an opalescent edge (Vaseline Opalescent Glass). The glass shows the typical yellow-green hue and the characteristic opacification at the edges. Note: This glass fluoresces very bright neon green under UV black light.
Glass decoration: "Hobnail" pattern (nubs) with a heavily wavy, crimped rim (Crimped / Ruffled Rim).
Material (mounting): Original socket and canopy made of brass or bronze with an antique patina. Tripod gallery holder with knurled screws.
Country of origin: Most likely France (a common form for Art Nouveau suspensions) or England (a traditional stronghold for opalescent hobnail glass such as by Fenton or Walsh), alternatively Bohemia (Kralik / Loetz circle). Given the lamp style, French origin is very plausible. Glass body: The visible areas of the shade are in excellent condition. No cracks or deep scratches in the visible area.
Fitter / collar (top edge): As seen in the detail photos, the upper edge (which disappears into the brass holder) shows the typical production- or wear-related rough edges and minor flea bites/chips. This is completely normal for historic lampshades of this era and scarcely affects value, as it is invisible when mounted.
Electrical: The wiring (newer blue/brown plastic cords) has been updated, but probably does not meet current modern VDE safety standards. It should be checked by a professional before installation. Overall height (glass + mounting): ca. 16 cm
Top diameter (collar/fitter): ca. 6 cm
Bottom diameter (opening): ca. 17 cm
