Description of the Work
As visible in the photographic overview, the work depicts a nude female figure, standing, captured in a solemn and hieratic presentation posture. The woman, characterized by a slender and sinuous silhouette, holds in her hands, at the level of the womb, an oval element in chromatic contrast with the rest of the body.
The entire surface of the figure is coated with a refined matte moss-green coloration, applied in a way that adapts to the vibrant modeling of the earth pressed by the artist. This monochrome treatment enhances the plastic texture of the body and the hair, giving the figure a classical elegance while also an aura of timelessness.
Critical and Aesthetic Analysis: The Homage to Fontana
The conceptual and emotional core of the work resides in the precious “object” that the woman offers to the viewer’s gaze.
The bright pinkish-pale oval, enclosed by a dark border, contains inside it a deep and tactile vertical crack. This is an explicit, refined reference to the famous "Cuts" (Spatial Concept) by Lucio Fontana.
The artistic operation of Camporese in this sculpture is twofold and substantial:
• The dialogue between two-dimensionality and three-dimensionality: Fontana’s famous “cut,” born to break the two-dimensionality of the canvas and to seek space beyond it, is here absorbed and reinterpreted within the pure three-dimensional plasticity of the terracotta sculpture.
• The sacredness of the gesture: The female figure acts as guardian and “priestess” of modern art. In presenting us the cut – a symbol of the end of traditional painting and the birth of Spatialism – the woman performs a nearly mystical act of unveiling, merging the figurative plasticity of Camporese’s sculpture with Fontana’s conceptual abstraction.
The bold contrast between the deep green of the body and the vivid pink of the crack inevitably draws the eye to the essence of the message: art that celebrates art, matter that bears the space of the infinite.
