Architectural ornament - 1625 - Fireplace brick

A molded fireplace brick measuring circa 15,2cm in length and weighing 1202g, depicting two winged stags facing each other with fleur de lis and date 1625. The winged stag ("cerf volant") was a symbol of royal divine authority that became prevalent under the reign of Louis XIII with the governance of Cardinal Richelieu helping to centralize royal authority and strengthen France´s position as a dominant European power. The fleur de lis was also a symbol of monarchial, divine authority.

Condition: Overall good, no significant damages or repairs. Minor wear commensurate with age and use.
