Rare book in good condition; the cloth dust jacket is somewhat battered. 154 pages with only illustrations, only the first few pages with text.
Ray Gilles was born on June 15, 1923, in Leuven. He studied at the Mechelen Academy and in Antwerp at the Higher Institute for Fine Arts and Terkameren. He exhibited both domestically and internationally, including Brussels, Antwerp, Liège, Ghent, Molanwelz and Milan. Ray Gilles made abstract canvases in the 1950s, beautiful cartoons in the 1960s. It is in that capacity as a cartoonist that he lives on. In 1961 he debuted with his cartoons at the Salon of Flemish Humor. His cartoons have been published in De Standaard. He designed books, magazines and theater posters. His work was regularly published in Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Germany and Italy.
