Leo Vandersmissen was a Belgian artist born in Dendermonde in 1900 and died in 1966 in Bruges. He received his training at the Bruges Academy, at the Academy of Ghent, and at the Academy of Dendermonde. He was initially influenced by the style of the Dendermonde school and by that of his teachers. He evolved toward a brighter luminism. He had a preference for landscapes, still lifes, (church) interiors, village and city views, and seascapes.
