Description from the seller
French/Belgian Violin 4/4 with Original Case – Late 19th / Early 20th Century
An fascinating antique 4/4 violin of French or Belgian school, datable between the end of the 19th century and the early 20th century, complete with its original hard wooden case with interior lined in antique pink fabric. The instrument exudes great decorative and musical charm, characterized by a beautiful transparent amber varnish and elegant lines typical of the European luthier tradition of the period.
Inside there is a partially legible paper label referring to the famous inscription “Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1721,” a formulation historically used in numerous European workshops inspired by the Cremonese school. Also accompanied by period sheet music “Ode à Sainte-Cécile” from Brussels, a suggestive detail that contributes to the authentic character of the set.
The instrument has been tested and is described as having a warm, pleasant, and well-balanced sound. The violin is complete and in good overall condition, with normal signs of wear, small superficial marks and light wear compatible with age and use, without evident breaks. The structure appears harmonious and well preserved.
Particularly interesting is the original rigid wooden case, complete with its antique hardware. As is often the case with wooden cases from this period, time has caused a slight deformation of the wood: the case closes but does not fit perfectly. Key missing.
A piece of strong collectible and decorative charm, ideal for enthusiasts of antique musical instruments, atmospheric interior design, or collections dedicated to European historic luthiery.
Photos are an integral part of the description. Guaranteed careful packing entrusted to professionals in the field.
The violins and bows described as 'certified' or 'attributed' include images of the respective certificates and are therefore considered to have a higher documented level of certainty regarding the luthier, origin and age than instruments described only as 'labelled' (violins) or 'stamped' (bows), for which we provide no warranty of any kind.
