Reprint of the anthology of works on Florentine calcio by Pietro Bini, published to commemorate the match played during the wedding celebrations of Ferdinando de’ Medici and Princess Violante Beatrice of Bavaria in December–January 1688–89.
The works in this anthology include a new edition of the “Discorso” by Bard, originally published in 1580 and which was the first book printed on calcio. Also present is a Latin treatise on the Jesuit G. B. Ferrari’s game, a description of the game in Greek verse by Georgios Koresios followed by a Tuscan dialect translation by A. M. Salvini, and a “Cantata in music” by Jacopo del Borgo.
