Artist biography:
Former graffiti tagger in the 1990s, Enigme09 discovered photomontage in 2009. Painter Jacques Monory reinforced him in the path he chose by suggesting a poetic approach to his art.
His compositions assemble elements drawn from the world of advertising or popular culture and others belonging to the corpus of art history. Their mix is striking, explosive, surprising, disturbing, but also invites reflection on the status of images and on a possible hierarchy of values among them.
The artist manages to give meaning to familiar signs, emptied of content due to their overwhelming presence. But, of course, this meaning is, most often, far from their original signified.
Enigme09 sums up his artistic creed in a brief formula: "give a voice to the images to open our eyes."
