Original work by Jan Hendrikse, a major figure of the Dutch avant-garde and member of the international movement Nul/Zero, known for his minimalist assemblages and his poetic use of everyday objects.
In this composition, both simple and ingenious, the artist transforms two genuine one-dollar bills into small neatly folded shirts, suspended between two pencil-drawn lines. Through this minimalist gesture, Hendrikse reworks a universal symbol of economic value into a familiar, light, and playful object.
This work perfectly illustrates Jan Hendrikse's artistic approach: revealing the unexpected beauty of ordinary objects and subtly questioning notions of value, consumption, and identity. Behind its apparent simplicity, the composition carries a strong conceptual dimension, characteristic of the Zero movement artists.
The use of actual banknotes gives the work a distinctive and instantly recognizable presence, while preserving the elegance and humor that have earned the artist international renown.
