Relax tra madre e figlia is an original oil painting on masonite by Italian artist Danilo Barghigiani (1903–1974), dating from 1960–1970, in the Impressionist landscape style, 15 x 25 cm, sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
Danilo Barghigiani condenses in a small format the evocative force of his material painting; the work represents a moment of shared quiet, immersed in a lush and welcoming nature, where two female figures – only sketched but immediately perceptible – become the emotional focal point of the composition, a small but delightful painting for collectors and enthusiasts, probably executed in “En plein air.”
The brushstroke, thick and dynamic, is the absolute protagonist; color is shaped with energy, giving life to dense and luminous surfaces that transform the landscape into a more emotional than descriptive perception. The painting material captures light and returns a sense of continuous movement, while keeping intact the serenity of the moment depicted.
Barghigiani’s work tells the value of affections through the language of nature; “Mother and Daughter” appear gathered in a protected space, distant from daily frenzies, in a silent dialogue made of presence and sharing, the simplicity of the subject thus transforming into a universal reflection on family bonds, memory, and the beauty of moments lived together.

DANILO BARGHIGIANI (also known as Barchigiani) was a prominent figure of Tuscan post-impressionism in the mid-20th century, whose life and career developed entirely within the painting tradition of his homeland. He was born in Livorno in 1903, a city that at that historical moment represented a thriving artistic center and a reference point for landscape painting in Italy. He grew up and worked closely with the Labronica School environment, starting from the fundamental model of the Macchiaioli and Giovanni Fattori, Barghigiani developed an autonomous identity and moved toward post-impressionism; during his life he deeply specialized in watercolor technique, while maintaining a rich oil production.
Barghigiani’s artistic biography is defined by the overcoming of traditional macchia in favor of a painting that is denser, more material, and color-rich. The landscape was never a simple background for the artist, but the main subject of his research, aimed at capturing the effects of natural light on the Livorno coast. In his archive biographies, he is remembered as a painter of great sensitivity, who from the 1980s onward became a recurring name for galleries specializing in 20th-century Tuscan art.
His production was particularly active, and his works entered steadily into private collections and into the art galleries of the Tuscan coast.
