Two matching antique helm-shaped coal scuttles from ca. 1900–1910, made of red copper with brass details and porcelain, each 33 cm high, 35 cm wide and 26 cm deep, weighing about 1.08 kg, Origin: the Netherlands, in good condition with minimal signs of ageing.
Description from the seller
Beautiful and rare matching pair (set of 2) antique helmet-shaped coal scuttles (also known as helmet pots) from the early 20th century.
These decorative fireplace fittings are crafted from high-quality red copper and nicely complemented by glossy brass details. Both pieces are identical in size and design.
The sides are decorated with characteristic, detailed brass lion heads that securely hold the handles in place. The graceful handles feature the recognizable white-and-blue Delft-style porcelain.
This pair is in remarkably good and solid condition. It is very rare for objects of this age that the porcelain on both scuttles is still completely intact: there are absolutely no cracks, crazing, or restorations. The copper and brass show a beautiful warm patina with minimal, age-appropriate signs of use that contribute to the authentic character. Ideal for use as atmospheric firewood bins beside the open fireplace, or as exclusive planters/jardinières in a classic or country interior.
