Description from the seller
Portrait of a young girl in traditional or gypsy dress, holding clay jugs. This is a classic scene painting (scène de genre), often found in 20th-century European art. It depicts a composite image of a young peasant woman, a gypsy (Gitana), or a common Italian woman (Popolana). Such colorful portraits in gilded frames were very popular in the mid- and second half of the 20th century (especially in the 1960s and 1970s) in Italy and other Southern European countries. Features of the painting: Subject: A young girl with chestnut hair, adorned with a bright headscarf, gold hoop earrings, and beads, holds two large clay vessels. Technique: The painting is executed in oil on canvas in an expressive impasto style, with an emphasis on the vibrant contrasts of green, red, and yellow. The canvas is inserted into a classic wooden frame with gilding and a light passe-partout. There is a label with information about the work of art, including the title, the artist's name "Valentino," and the year "1986." The label also bears the stamps "Galleria Vinciana" and "Autentica" (Authenticity). Similar labels are used to authenticate oil paintings on canvas from this period.
