AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Beautiful and rare “L’Orphéon” silver-plated metal soprano clarinet with a large bore.
The workshops of “L'Orphéon” were located in Paris 11, 16 Boulevard du Temple. A renowned maker of wind instruments, notably metal clarinets, this luthier earned a fine reputation for the quality of his instruments. He operated from 1880 to 1935.
The metal clarinets from L’Orphéon stand out for their rich timbre and durability. The construction of these instruments blends traditional craft with modern technology, allowing them to meet the demands of contemporary clarinetists.
Regarding the metal plateaux clarinets from the brand “L’Orphéon,” they are appreciated for their robustness and ease of play.
They generally have a brighter, more piercing sound compared with wooden clarinets, which makes them particularly suited to jazz.
Instruments that have become very rare, plateaux clarinets are designed as small bass clarinets.
Versatile, they are also suitable to facilitate playing for children with “a bit short” fingers, for musicians who have had an issue with a phalanx or who suffer from hand arthrosis, or for saxophonists who are not used to “ring-key” instruments.
It is made of a single piece. Only the barrel is removable.
Its serial number is 2750, engraved at the bottom of the lower body. It was presumably made in the 1930s.
The silvering is present at about 99%. A few traces of wear, barely visible, on the plateaux.
All the pads have been replaced with white leather pads “Martin Chanu,” except the twelfth key which is fitted with a cork pad. The plateaux have been equipped with oboe pads (thinner than clarinet pads) to optimize the movement of the table and to obtain a clearer sound.
It features a wide bore of 15 mm, which predisposes it particularly to jazz (by comparison, the SELMER Centered Tone jazz clarinet has a bore of 14.93 mm).
It sits at 442 Hz and is homogeneous. Its wide bore gives good projection, a sound that is both centered and powerful, ideal for New Orleans and swing jazz!
The joints at the top tenon and key dampers are new.
It is laid down, fully assembled, in a beautiful new case; inside you will find its original mouthpiece, R. Malerne, a ligature and a silver-plated metal mouthpiece cap, as well as a few reeds 2 and 2.5, a lyre and a swab.
