The Red Hour
In this work, the artist builds an interior scene charged with chromatic intensity and symbolic tension. The central figure, seated at a table, seems to inhabit a suspended moment between contemplation and everyday ritual. The dominant red envelops the entire composition like an emotional atmosphere, reminiscent of baroque theater, where light, silence, and objects acquire a nearly ceremonial presence.
The structure of the image recalls cubist language, not from the cold fragmentation of form, but from a warmer, more expressive, contemporary reinterpretation. The figure dissolves into planes of color, broken lines, and suggested volumes, while the space is organized as an intimate stage where each element appears to have a narrative function. The bottle, the glass, the table, and the almost sculptural form on the left compose an expanded still life, integrated into the psychology of the scene.
There is an evident relationship in the work between modernity and memory. The composition dialogues with the European still life tradition, with echoes of the Renaissance in the figure’s gathered posture, and with the chromatic strength of 20th-century avant-garde movements. Yet Lezcano brings these references into a territory of her own: more sensory, more intuitive, where color does not describe but reveals.
The Red Hour is a piece with a strong visual presence. Its power lies in that balance between intimacy and theatricality, between geometry and emotion, between the scene’s apparent calm and the vibrant energy that traverses it.
