Description from the seller
An exuberant painting, deeply sociable and funny, like an imaginary village festival where no one wants to go home.
At first glance, Ralf Altrieth's painting seems to burst forth in a free, instinctive surge. Then the gaze lingers — and gradually reveals a world more complex, populated by singular presences, unexpected encounters and silent dialogues. Nothing is fixed. The work continually evolves with distance, light and the time spent before it.
In this universe, the boundary between abstraction and figuration remains deliberately unstable. Silhouettes appear, looks cross, stories seem to begin without ever settling. The gaze is prompted, set in motion. Seeing becomes an active, almost physical experience.
But beyond their immediate energy, Altrieth’s works establish themselves durably in space. They settle in through their density. Through their presence. And through that rare ability to transform the space in which they take place.

CRITIQUE ET PRESSE:
"In this sense, Ralf Altrieth’s pictorial poems are a pure childish chant. From the crucible of improvisation comes a world intact, made of spontaneous joys and strong impulses."
— Dr Friedhelm Häring, art historian and museum director
"His gestural and color writing depicts a world open to new voices and to experiences never attempted. His canvases and works on paper demonstrate that painting remains a major expression of the contemporary scene."
