From a private collection, this is a rare, beautiful, and distinctive fascist-period propaganda painting from the Opera Italiana Pro Oriente for the so-called 'Celebration of the Bread' of 1928.
Historical note: The Opera Italiana Pro Oriente was founded in 1922/23 by nationalist military chaplain Francesco Galloni following a trip through Eastern Europe with the aim of locating missing Italian soldiers.
The organization established in the Bulgarian capital an Italo‑Oriental institute that began its activities in 1928.
One of these activities, intended to raise funds for its purposes, was precisely the propaganda machinery behind the Celebrations of the Bread.
